Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

An invaluable official military intelligence reference compiled with truly Teutonic thoroughness by the American Expeditionary Forces General Staff and published in Washington in 1920. Based on wartime intelligence, the volume provides a systematic survey of the organisation, composition and operational history of every German division that served during the First World War. Each divisional entry records its constituent regiments, artillery and supporting units, followed by a chronological account of major operations and engagements. Particular value lies in its coverage of movements and deployments, changes in command, regional recruitment and assessments of morale and fighting effectiveness. Although produced shortly after the war, the work remains an important English-language reference for tracing German formations across the Western Front and other theatres. Its detailed divisional histories make it especially useful to researchers studying German order of battle, unit movements and operational performance, and it remains a highly worthwhile companion to German archival sources.
