Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Extracts from Letters and Notes Written During the Siege of Delhi in 1857, by General Sir Charles Reid, is a valuable firsthand military account of one of the defining campaigns of the Indian Rebellion. Drawing on letters and contemporary notes, Reid provides a direct front line perspective on the fighting around Delhi and his command of the Sirmoor Battalion. Particularly compelling is his account of the crucial Advance Posts, where his men faced repeated and determined rebel assaults. His observations highlight the discipline, loyalty, and fighting qualities of the Sirmoor Battalion, the renowned Gurkha unit that later became part of the 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles. The work also records the campaign's aftermath and the subsequent tactical march towards Meerut. An important and engaging primary source, this volume offers a rare insight into command, combat, and the experiences of Gurkha soldiers during the siege of Delhi.
