Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What sustained the Christian martyrs through persecution, imprisonment and death? In Faithful to the End, Bishop Youannis of Gharbia brings the history of the early Church into conversation with the spiritual life.Writing from the Coptic Orthodox tradition, he explores the causes of persecution, the martyrs' courage and love, the testimony of confessors, and the Church's care for those who suffered. Accounts of bishops, soldiers, mothers, children and believers from many walks of life reveal the breadth of Christian witness. This complete English translation of the fourth enlarged Arabic edition preserves the author's prefaces, Bishop Shenouda's foreword, source notes, bibliography and original illustrations. Historical and textual difficulties are identified where necessary, while the author's pastoral voice and convictions remain clear.A substantial work of Christian history and devotion for readers interested in the martyrs, the early Church and Coptic Orthodox spirituality.
