A LONE-WOLF DETECTIVE MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN JUSTICE AND VENGENCE WHEN MURDER GETS PERSONAL IN THIS GRITTY NOVEL FILLED WITH MYSTERY AND ADVENTURE.Alternate-history Russia, modern day: The Ottoman Empire stretches from the Mediterranean to the Pacific and keeps an uneasy peace with its nuclear rival, the Chinese Empire of the Sun. Acting as a buffer between the two corrupt empires lays the small country of Fergana, established by refugees from the destruction of Russia. There, in the shadow of empires, they have created their own uneasy peace with the tribal people who always inhabited these lands. The body of a dead girl in a pink sweater draws disillusioned Detektiv Alexander Kazakov into an investigation that even the dead girl's mother wants him to abandon. When the case links to the upcoming presidential election, and death stalks people close to Kazakov, it only strengthens his resolve to crush the evil behind the crime.Forbidden to continue his enquiries, but driven by the need for truth, Kazakov conducts an unauthorized investigation working with a tribal doctor and an American spy. The case ignites racial tensions and threatens the country's political stability. In a landscape of snow and brothels, Kazakov must catch a killer no one suspects before unknown forces unleashes cataclysmic war.If you like Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, and James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux, you'll love the gritty world of Alexander Kazakov.
