What if the real question wasn't 'Should we (or shouldn't we) eat animals?' but 'Why do we exploit them?'For centuries, Western thought has elevated humans to the top: masters of nature and living beings, of territories and the fate of animals. This colonisation of living beings has shaped our laws, our farms, our laboratories, our histories and even our most ordinary actions.Yet other peoples see the world differently. They know that the Earth belongs to no one, that animals are not just a resource, but above all a presence, a relationship, a sentient existence, and that we must coexist with them because we live alongside them.In this essay, Cédric Sueur explores the roots of this domination and proposes a revolution in our perspective: decolonising our relationship with living beings. Decolonising animals means learning to see them differently: no longer as objects to be used, but as partners in the world. It means recognising the consciousness, memory, joy and suffering of those with whom we share the Earth.A committed and enlightening essay that invites us to repair our imagination and rethink our practices, to remind us of this simple truth: We make up the world together, with animalsand with other living beings.
