Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Polish mayors were an important group of officials in the administrative apparatus of the Generalgouvernement. Together with the German district and town governors, they shaped local policy and played an important role in the persecution and murder of Polish and European Jews as well as in the exploitation of the Generalgouvernement. Based on extensive archival research and new contextualizations, this book presents selected Polish mayors and shows how they behaved during World War II. The analysis includes towns such as Otwock, medium-sized cities such as Częstochowa, and metropolis such as Warsaw. With this study, Grzegorz Rossoliński-Liebe presents a standard monograph that represents an indispensable basis for research into municipal administrations during the Holocaust.
