The manuscripts of the Dietrichstein Library have had a turbulent history. Originally collected by Ferdinand Hofmann, they later came into the possession of the Dietrichstein family at Mikulov Castle. In the 1930s, 116 of the manuscripts were purchased by the Czechoslovak state and are now preserved in the Moravian Library. Hidden within the bindings of these volumes are manuscript fragments dating from the 10th to the 16th centuries. Studying these fragments provides insight into medieval documents that were destined to destruction.
