Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Vorwort – Nina-Kristin Meister & Markus Steinbach: Geleitwort der alten Redaktion zum Herausgeberwechsel – Marco Coniglio & Eric Fuß: Geleitwort der neuen Redaktion zum Herausgeberwechsel Beiträge aus Forschung und Anwendung – Milica Lazovic: Simulierte innere Rede als Ressource in der Sprachlernberatung für DaF. Interaktionsanalytische Einblicke in die Dynamiken funktionaler Adaptation Abstract: This paper analyzes the practices of simulated inner speech in the context of language counsel-ing for German as a foreign language, aiming to promote the adaptive interactional compe-tences of novice counselors. Grounded in interactional linguistics, this study examines the practices of novice GFL teachers acting as counselors for the first time in two contexts: ad-hoc text-feedback-based counseling and a longitudinal case study spanning two counseling cycles of one counselor, each with seven sessions. The paper begins by situating the research within the broader field of foreign language learning counseling, reported speech practices, and the multidimensional adaptive dynamic processes involved in their enactment. The analysis pro-ceeds as follows: First, the functionalization of simulated inner speech in text-feedback coun-seling is documented, revealing various functional contexts in which it is adaptively employed. Subsequently, its functional adaptations are explored through a longitudinal case study of one counselor over one year. Results indicate that it operates as practice in an empathic interface with multiple functions – regulating deontic and epistemic positioning, grounding and re-modelling reflection-in-action, reducing resistance, thereby actively involving the learner in self-exploration and solution-finding, while also supporting the counselor’s meta-regulation. The longitudinal analysis sheds light on the multidimensional interactive adaptive dynamics, the expansion of functional potential, and the counseling-specific calibration of these func-tions. – Heba El Shanawany & Richard Wiese: Transfer or universal principles? – Final Devoicing in second language German speakers of Arabic Abstract: Theories of second language acquisition vary in the amount of relevance they assign to factors such as transfer from the first language to the second, independent principles of the learner language, or universal principles of language learning. The present study examines some of these fundamental questions by examining a well-known phonological alternation, that of Final Obstruent Devoicing, in its occurrence in a second language, that of Cairene Arabic. In a production study, learners of German (university students in Egypt) were asked to read words containing segments possibly subject to this alternation. The experiment reveals a strong pref-erence for the non-application of Final Obstruent Devoicing for these learners. A regression analysis demonstrates that factors of manner distinction and position within the word shape the results. Final Obstruent Devoicing is demonstrated to result from an active learning process in second language acquisition supported also by the orthographic representation of the respective items, and not a universal preference applied automatically. Praktisches aus Forschung und Lehre – Nils Dörr: Konstituentenabfolge im Mittelfeld: Linguistische Beschreibung versus Didaktisierung in DaF-Lehrwerken? Abstract: The aim of this paper is to summarise important linguistic factors that influence the constituent sequence in German grammar and, on this basis, to analyse how this difficult area of acquisi-tion is dealt with in current GFL textbooks. A particular focus is on the question of whether learners are implicitly or explicitly confronted with the fact that German syntax often offers several linearisation options and that not only grammatical but also contextual factors such as givenness can be relevant. This article focuses on the sequence of constituents in the so-called middle field, which can theoretically contain an infinite number of constituents in German. As a consequence, any attempt to describe linguistic phenomena on a purely syntactical basis, without taking contextual factors sufficiently into account, falls short not only linguistically but also didactically. The key question is to what extent the didacticization of this complex phenomenon corresponds to the linguistic descriptions. Despite action orientation as a credo in the textbooks, it can be seen that grammar is still often only thought of at sentence level and contextual and discourse-related factors are not taken into account, although there are consid-erable differences between the textbooks. – Nina-Kristin Meister, Annette Flemnitz & Annika Herrmann: Categorization of lower face actions Abstract: In sign languages, nonmanual markers such as facial expressions in the upper half of the face, facial expressions in the lower half of the face, head movements, and upper body movements serve essential lexical and grammatical functions on the one hand and affective functions on the other. In order to describe these various nonmanual markers appropriately, it is crucial that they are classified and annotated systematically according to objectively defined categories. In addition, aiming at a uniform approach to annotation, or at least ensuring compatible labelling across studies is essential in order to be able to compare different research results. The Facial Action Coding System (FACS) is a very valuable tool in this context. However, with regard to the lower half of the face, it is not exhaustive and additional categories are required. In this bilingual paper, we propose comprehensive annotation categories for expressions on the lower half of the face that go beyond FACS and are relevant to both sign language linguistics and gesture research.
