This volume presents the newly discovered inventory of F. W. J. Schelling’s library. This list, compiled shortly after Schelling’s death, offers valuable insights into the literature used by the philosopher, and thus adds substantially to our understanding of his work, offering an important supplement to the historical-critical edition of his work. – Some of Schelling’s books were kept by the family; the rest were put up for auction. The catalogue compiled for this auction will also be reprinted, with the addition of modern bibliographical data and various indices. The introduction documents the relevant, for the compiling of the list as well as for the auction, and discusses the way in which Schelling’s reading found its way into his own work.
