Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

In our global village multimedia translation is gaining and gaining on importance. Hundreds of movies are translated everyday and translators worldwide need to cope with the problem of making the audience understand not only the text itself, but also the context. 'Cultural Equivalence in Polish and German Dubbing' presents two approaches to dealing with cultural expressions, which belong to the most troublesome phrases to translate. Polish and German dubbings of 'Shrek 2' turn out to constitute polar approaches to the problem of cultural equivalence, one turning to an extreme case of domestication, the other one to foreignisation. No matter whether you are a student of translation studies, an experienced translator or just a person interested in multimedia, the book will make you look at what we can experience in cinemas from a different perspective.
