Spatial Effects of International Migration International migration and the increasing diversity of the population are highly topical social-political issues in Germany. Local challenges in municipalities and residential areas are tangible and visible. The question as to how integration can be successful is particularly pressing in the spheres of work, housing and education. This edited volume comprehensively addresses the themes migration and migration policy, segregation and integration, and considers concepts such as hybridity, diversity and transculturality in integration theory discourse. However, discussion is not restricted to the theoretical-conceptual level but includes illustration of possible courses of action in practice. Empirical case studies on, for example, the segregation of migrants in large cities, the neighbourhood choice of second-generation Turkish-origin homeowners and urban integration policy measures in Europe, reveal the challenges faced by politics and society. The authors critically review current research practice and integration policy. They provide examples of improved integration in municipalities, residential areas, the education system, the housing market and the economy. Theoretical analyses are linked to planning and policy recommendations.
