This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition "Zhou Li: Closet Yet Farthest" (September 12 - November 12, 2025). A person’s life journey unfolds much like the Ship of Theseus. Whenever we seek to escape a predicament or transcend set patterns, it seems to require a parting with to the “past”, compelling us to pursue a constantly renewing self. Yet the days and experience once seemingly “discarded” often regain meaning at unforeseen moments - through chance encounters or epiphanies - reemerging as an indispensable part of the entirety of life. For artist Zhou Li, her practice embodies an ongoing inquiry into the relationships between the different stages of an individual’s life, and between the self and the others. Her ever-shifting visual patterns flow along the threads that transcend temporal boundaries, approaching a state of “coexistence and commonality” that is “closest yet farthest”.
