Only a few days after the formal foundation of the African Union on 8th / 9th July, 2002, in Durban/South Africa, the European Centre for Transnational Integration Studies has produced an international press clippings evaluation. A broad scope of many newspapers, dailies and weeklies, from all over the world but in particular from African sources, will lead to a more objective view of the foundation. Many difficulties will lie ahead of the African Union. May this compilation help the people who take care of Africa which may soon be a more articulated part of the earth thanks to the AU. We are sorry for the non-interpretation of several articles which are in French and German, but we assume that many readers will be ready to read in foreign languages. Furthermore, we are sorry for the technical inadequacy for many of the clippings which, however, sometimes is due to the technical formatting of the internet homepages. But this booklet may serve as a first and somehow representative compilation on the foundation of the African Union, an event which has seemed to be underestimated by many.
