YAG laser capsulotomy is widely and rightly regarded as the standard treatment for opacification of the posterior lens capsule following cataract surgery. A frequency-doubled Nd-YAG laser is used to open the posterior lens capsule with single shots, clearing the previously clouded optical axis and improving visual acuity.
