*Cistellaria*, one of Plautus's lesser-known comedies, has been handed down in very poor condition. The Palatine manuscripts, which-along with the Ambrosian manuscript-contain the so-called "Varronian comedies," in fact have a large gap of over 600 lines in the middle -caused by the accidental loss of several "quaterniones" from the original manuscript-and, to make up for this loss in some way, the only option is to attempt to decipher the highly illegible Ambrosian manuscript. Following the extensive work of Studemund and Stockert, and through digital image processing and reconstructions by Teresa De Robertis, an attempt was made to analyze the digital infrared images taken from the Ambrosian manuscript, specifically from a heavily damaged section where the text is riddled with gaps, partly attributable to Angelo Mai's use of gallnut dye and partly caused by the aggressive ink of the *scriptura superior* of the biblical text, which was placed directly over Plautus's text.
