Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Following decades of successful forest management, characterised by a steady improvement in the condition of the forests and a simultaneous increase in forest cover, Austria's forestry sector now faces the major challenge of rapidly changing environmental conditions. The debate within the forestry sector regarding the potential impacts of this climate change is highly contentious: whilst some forestry experts paint a picture of impending disaster, others argue that timely and appropriate adaptation measures could well present new opportunities for the forestry sector. In light of the importance of forests in Austria and the need for their orderly management, this study examines - based on the results of forest-related climate projections - to what extent forest management as practised to date, in accordance with the provisions of the Forestry Act, will remain possible in the future, and what risks changing climatic conditions may pose to domestic forests in the future. Where is action required, and where can adaptation measures be dispensed with? Might climate change even present new opportunities for the domestic forestry sector?
