A running engine is subjected to sudden impacts, extreme heat, high pressures and dry friction. To ensure the proper functioning of its mechanical components, it must be provided with adequate lubrication. To this end, lubricating oils are used to lubricate, cool and clean the engine's parts by forming a protective film between them. These lubricants are composed of base oils and additives. The additives impart beneficial properties to the lubricating oils. This book focuses primarily on the study of the kinematic viscosity of lubricating oils. The concentration of the viscosity index improver additive was optimised for four oils. Secondly, the study examined the effect of replacing one viscosity index improver additive with another of the same type.
