In this approach, volatile ingredients are compressed with suitable excipients and subsequently removed through sublimation, creating a highly porous tablet matrix. The resulting pores enable the tablet to rapidly dissolve upon contact with saliva, eliminating the need for water.The book discusses the use of volatile substances such as ammonium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate, benzoic acid, camphor, hexamethylenetetramine, naphthalene, phthalic anhydride, urea and urethane in the development of porous, rapidly dissolving tablets.
