Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The narrative begins with Julia, the daughter of Augustus, showcasing how the women of this era were intertwined with the political machinations of their husbands and sons. Ferrero examines figures like Livia, the ambitious wife of Augustus, who exerted significant influence over her husband's rule, and Agrippina, who maneuvered her way to power through strategic marriages and the elevation of her son Nero.Ferrero's work is not just a historical account; it also reflects on broader themes of femininity, power, and the societal expectations placed upon women in ancient Rome. Through rich storytelling and extensive historical research, The Women of the Caesars presents a nuanced portrait of these women, illustrating their contributions to the shaping of Roman history and culture. The book stands as a testament to the often-overlooked stories of women who wielded influence and authority during a time when their voices were largely marginalized.
