Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Woman's Bible by Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a pioneering feminist work that critiques traditional interpretations of the Bible from the perspective of women's rights and equality. As a key figure in the women's suffrage movement, Stanton sought to challenge the patriarchal views that she believed were perpetuated by the Bible, which often relegated women to subordinate roles. In The Woman's Bible, she reexamines biblical texts, offering commentary and analysis on passages that deal with women, while arguing for a more egalitarian interpretation. The book is divided into two parts. In Part I, Stanton focuses on the creation story and the role of women in the Old Testament, specifically analyzing the portrayal of Eve and other significant female figures like Sarah, Deborah, and Esther. She critiques the long-standing view that women's suffering and subordination originated with Eve's fall, and instead emphasizes women's strength, intelligence, and moral capacity.
