Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A shadowed consulting room, the hush broken only by the halting words of patients gripped by mysterious afflictions-here, the roots of modern psychotherapy took hold. This landmark volume gathers foundational case studies and essays that first mapped the strange territory of hysteria and psychoneuroses, tracing the contours of the human mind at a time when psychological disorders were little understood and often shrouded in stigma. Through lucid, probing analysis, the text illuminates the earliest efforts to unravel the tangled origins of mental suffering, offering a rare window into the birth of psychoanalysis and the dawn of psychodynamic theory. The work stands as a pivotal document in the history of psychoneuroses, capturing the intellectual ferment of nineteenth century psychology as it grappled with the boundaries between mind and body, symptom and source. Each case study is rendered with clinical precision and a palpable sense of urgency, as the author seeks to decode the language of the unconscious and bring hidden conflicts to light. The reading experience is both intimate and unsettling, as familiar notions of health and identity are challenged by the emerging science of the psyche. Collectors and general readers alike will find a compelling record of the origins of psychotherapy, where the earliest theories of mental health were forged in the crucible of real human experience. The book's influence on the development of psychological theory is unmistakable, and its pages remain a testament to the enduring fascination with the workings of the mind. For those interested in early psychology works, the history of psychological disorders, and the classic case studies that shaped the field, this edition offers an authentic encounter with the ideas that changed how we understand ourselves. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
