Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A cheerful shepherd girl sings beside a cranberry-filled swamp, unaware that her voice has angered Hallatar, the cold and harsh queen of an underground ice castle. When the girl disappears, an old elf sets out to find her, bringing friendship and loyalty into conflict with deception, danger and supernatural power. This striking central tale establishes a world where overlooked figures may face the most formidable trials. Beyond that icy kingdom, nine further prose fairy tales travel through Finnish forests, meadows, farmsteads and villages, then cross into castles, enchanted realms and distant magical lands. Children, poor young people, shepherds and peasants stand alongside princes and princesses, while talking animals, magical objects and transformations alter the course of their encounters. Personified forces of nature and traditional folklore figures make the familiar landscape a place where help may arrive unexpectedly and appearances cannot always be trusted. An oral storytelling tone gives the collection the directness of tales meant to be spoken and remembered. Its fantasy grows from clear moral and allegorical conflicts: courage tested by peril, compassion set against social division, and perseverance demanded when deception blocks the way. Rather than reserving agency for the powerful, these stories repeatedly turn towards humble and neglected characters whose choices matter in worlds shaped by magic. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
