The signs of progress in economic and social indicators have been found in few states while other states lag behind, implying thereby unevenness and unequal spread of the benefits of economic growth among the states of India. The book also identifies the factors underlying divergence in economic and social activity in India and provides policy suggestions for bringing about more balanced and inclusive development in India.
