Overestimation of medico-biological effects of low-dose ionizing radiation contributed to the strangulation of nuclear energy and high fossil fuel prices. According to insider observations, the unofficial directive to exaggerate Chernobyl consequences was issued in the former Soviet Union in the late 1980s. Today there are no alternatives to the nuclear energy; especially for Europe, where large hydroelectric power stations cannot be built. Fossil fuels will become increasingly expensive, contributing to excessive population growth in oil-producing countries and poverty elsewhere. Appeals to dismantle nuclear power plants are in agreement with the interests of fossil fuel producers. In conditions of current political and economical rivalries, radiation safety regulations are exceedingly restrictive and should be revised to become more realistic and workable. Strictly observed realistic safety regulations will bring more benefit for the public health than excessive restrictions that would be neglected in the countries with disrespect for laws and regulations, bringing to the trespassers economic and strategic advantages. The weightiest argument against nuclear power plants is that they are potential war targets. Escalation of conflicts contributes to boosting of fossil fuel prices. Apparently, this has been one of the motives to unleash and continue the war in Ukraine. Should the world become multipolar, armed conflicts will become permanent. A constructive alternative is a global leadership based in most developed parts of the world. Great projects could be realized by united humankind instead of rivalries and military expenditures. Wars within Europe bear witness to courage of soldiers and irresponsibility of some leaders. The winners are those who remain outside.
