Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Cumbria, 2001. In the dark days of the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic, as the flames of the extermination pyres blacken the hills of northern England, Steve Elliman returns to work on his father's farm. In this devastated landscape, he encounters William Herne, a brutal, intimidating, and aggressive farmer, who drags him into a murky world of sheep theft, underground fights, and murders in the fog. Together, they establish a kind of savage commune that soon becomes an outlaw gang, a new way of life where grueling physical labor and the instinct for survival replace any ethics. With raw and powerful prose, Scott Preston narrates a rural British western, imbued with relentless lyricism, where crime sprouts from the ground like a plague. A furious novel about masculinity and about the land as a blind force, battling those who try to subdue it. A novel of mud, blood, and silence, where the crime isn't solved, it lingers. And where redemption doesn't consist of returning, but of staying no matter what.
