Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

At the heart of early Theravada Buddhism lies an extraordinary collection of 25 texts that reveal a profound dialogue between two worlds: the divine and the human. The Sakka Samyutta transports us to the heavenly realm of the Thirty-Three Gods, where Sakka--the same god Indra of the Vedas transformed into a devout follower of the Buddha--embodies the perfect synthesis between Hindu mythical tradition and Buddhist wisdom. Through captivating narratives in the elegant sagatha format--prose interwoven with poetic verses--these discourses present teachings on karma, merit, spiritual effort, ethical virtues, and the search for transcendence. Sakka emerges as a complex character: king of the gods who embraces humility, warrior who preaches forgiveness, and celestial sovereign who venerates the Buddha's teachings and offers him his friendship. Presented for the first time in a critical edition in Spanish, this translation opens the doors to a literary and spiritual treasure that has nourished the Buddhist tradition for centuries. Each discourse reveals deep layers of meaning: from cosmic battles between gods and demons to intimate reflections on the nature of happiness and suffering. It includes an introductory study by Raúl Alonso, a specialist in the philosophy of religion, who contextualizes this work historically, philosophically, and religiously within the Pali Canon, revealing its unique importance for contemporary studies of Buddhist philosophy.
