Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The work is a passionate and profound critique of the society, politics, and morality of its time. Wollstonecraft, in her response to a pamphlet by Edmund Burke on the French Revolution, questions with a mixture of sensitivity and sharpness the hypocrisy and contradictions of the elites, especially in relation to the nobility and the clergy, whose wealth and privileges she considers illegitimate and harmful. She argues that true happiness and virtue can only flourish in a society based on reason, equality, and justice, not on tradition or superficial 'sensibility'. She criticizes contempt for the poor and the justification of oppression, arguing that compassion and true love are born of rational understanding, not mere impulses. In essence, he advocates radical reform that prioritizes the well-being of all men and women over vested interests, stripping religion and institutions of their 'Gothic trappings' to reveal an intrinsic beauty and morality accessible to all humanity without exception.
