Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Charlie knew the sound of the car before it reached the door. Molly knew the safety of the space between her person's legs. Their days were built around familiar footsteps, working hours, bowls, blankets and the certainty that tomorrow would resemble today. Then the door closed, and the person they had trusted did not return.Charlie and Molly were given no explanation. They had no voice in the divorce and no choice when the word rehome appeared in the papers deciding their future. They could only search the rooms, react to familiar car alarms and turn towards the entrance whenever they heard his name.Told entirely through the imagined voices of two Boston terriers, We Didn't Get a Choice explores what animals may notice when a human family comes apart: the furniture that moves, the routines that disappear and the grief people believe their dogs cannot understand. It is also the story of what followed. A ball thrown again. A slower walk for an ageing Charlie. Molly cautiously choosing a new place to sleep. Two abandoned dogs and one wounded person gradually becoming a family. They were not chosen by the person who left. They became the daily choice of the person who stayed.
