Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

You survived the bakery. Now tell someone what actually happened.

Beginner German gets you ordering a coffee. It does not get you through "I was watching a film when you called, so I didn't hear the phone." That sentence needs the past - and in German it also needs the verb in the right place, which is where most self-taught learners quietly stall.

Speak German Now, Level 2 picks up exactly there. Same method as Level 1: no conjugation tables, no case charts, no jargon. Every phrase is a whole block that is correct exactly as printed, and every noun still arrives with its der, die or das attached.

But this book does one thing its Spanish and French siblings don't: it teaches word order, because in German that is not optional. Get the verb ending right and the position wrong and you will not be understood. So from the very first lesson you learn one shape - the helper early, the action word at the very end, everything else in between - and you drill it until it stops being a rule and becomes a reflex.

Inside, you'll find:

- 15 lessons across 5 parts - from your first past-tense sentence to telling a full story out loud- The spoken past as one repeatable shape, plus the short list of verbs (war, hatte, gab, wollte, konnte) that skip it entirely- The rule that catches everyone: why it is gestern habe ich and never gestern ich habe- Weil - and the honest escape hatch, denn, for when you are not ready for it yet- Life beyond the tourist script - work, home, neighbors, errands, health, plans that change- How to disagree politely, ask a favor and offer help - the small softening words that stop German sounding blunt in a learner's mouth- The modal particles no course teaches: doch, mal, ja, halt, eben - including the one answer word English simply does not have- A Cover & Test page in every lesson, a full Answer Key, a German-English mini phrasebook, and a 30-Day Practice Plan

One change from Level 1: this book uses du. Level 1 kept you on Sie, which is right with strangers - but almost everything at this level happens between friends and colleagues. Service encounters here stay with Sie.

Do you need Level 1 first? No. If you can already introduce yourself, order food and ask for directions in German, you can start here.

Who it's for: advanced beginners, returning learners who stalled at the past tense, and anyone who can hold a simple conversation but goes silent the moment it turns to yesterday.

Speak German Now, Level 2 is part of The Verbolino Method - the same approach as Speak German Now Level 1, Speak Spanish Now, Speak French Now, Speak Italian Now and Speak Portuguese Now.
