Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Profile of Eiko Kawasaki

Eiko Kawasaki was born in Kyoto in 1942 and is a second-generation Korean resident of Japan.

In 1960, at the age of 17, she traveled alone to North Korea as part of the Japan-North Korea "Repatriation Project," which encouraged ethnic Koreans living in Japan to move to North Korea.

She lived in North Korea for approximately 43 years before escaping in 2003 and returning to Japan after 44 years away from her homeland.

Today, she is a prominent human rights activist working to expose the reality of the North Korean "repatriation" program and the serious human rights violations committed by the North Korean regime. She continues to campaign internationally for justice and for the resolution of human rights abuses in North Korea.

Kawasaki initiated a civil damages lawsuit in Tokyo against Kim Jong Un concerning the human rights violations suffered by ethnic Koreans in Japan who were sent to North Korea under the repatriation program. The lawsuit ultimately resulted in a victory for the plaintiffs.

She continues her international efforts to determine the fate and whereabouts of her children who remain in North Korea, seeking confirmation of whether they are still alive and hoping to secure their safety and freedom.
