Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

An emperor summoned the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire to Augsburg. He expected them to explain what was being taught in their churches. The Lutheran princes came prepared-not with armies, but with a confession. On June 25, 1530, Chancellor Christian Beyer stood before Emperor Charles V and read the Augsburg Confession aloud in German. Its words carried through the open windows to the people gathered outside. Behind Beyer stood princes and representatives of cities who were willing to place their names beneath a clear confession of Christ and His Gospel.Their confession proclaimed the heart of the Christian faith: sinners are forgiven and justified freely for Christ's sake through faith. God creates and sustains that faith through His Word and Sacraments.Richly illustrated in a classical historical style, The Princes Who Confessed Christ introduces young readers to Elector John the Steadfast, Margrave George of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Philip Melanchthon, Martin Luther, Christian Beyer, and Emperor Charles V. It tells the story of ordinary Christian courage-not confidence in human strength, but faith confessing what God has spoken.Created for families, Lutheran schools, congregations, and homeschoolers, the book concludes with "Christ's Promise for You" and a catechetical page connecting the story with Holy Scripture and the Augsburg Confession.Volume One of Augustana 500: Stories of the Lutheran Reformation.
