Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What happens when you stop waiting for your life to become something-and start building it yourself?

On Capitol Hill in Seattle, twenty-two apartments hold twenty-two separate lives. Most of the residents barely know one another. But over the course of a year, the people of The Lorraine begin to discover that their lives are more connected than they imagined.

Maya has built a successful career as a UX designer, but after a corporate restructuring forces her to reconsider where she's going, she begins asking a harder question: what does she actually want to build?

Eli is a talented chef working long hours while quietly pursuing his dream of opening his own restaurant. The dream has taken years to reach, and now it is finally becoming real.

Danica is a bassist whose band, Soft Architecture, has unexpectedly begun to move beyond the small Seattle clubs where they started. What happens when the music she once made simply because she needed to make it begins to carry her toward something bigger?

Aisha, a third-year medical resident at Harborview, discovers that her work has given her an idea for something the hospital desperately needs-a new kind of mental-health support program for healthcare workers. For the first time, she begins building a future she can imagine herself living in.

And Colton is trying to make a record. Seven songs. A guitar. A wall of index cards. A year of learning that sometimes the distance between knowing what you want and being able to live it is where the real work happens.

Around them are friends, neighbors, musicians, coworkers, landlords, exes, and strangers who become part of one another's stories.

Set against the changing streets, music, restaurants, apartments, and rainy summer nights of Seattle, THE DRIFT is a novel about people in their twenties and thirties standing at the edge of change-and discovering that they don't need to have everything figured out to begin.

Because sometimes the destination isn't the point. Sometimes the drift is where you become yourself.
