Death on the Covered BridgeSome crossings change everything.Autumn has settled over Maple Hollow, Vermont, and restoration has finally begun on one of the town's most beloved landmarks-the old Ashbrook Covered Bridge.Harper Sullivan is thrilled to help document the bridge's history while the town prepares for another picture-perfect New England fall. But when structural engineer Ethan Hale disappears after discovering something hidden inside the bridge, the restoration takes a dark turn. His truck is left behind. His phone is still inside. And the files on the passenger seat contain copies of decades-old Civilian Conservation Corps payroll records. Then workers open a sealed section of the bridge and uncover human remains. The evidence points back to 1936, when a young CCC worker named Samuel Crowley supposedly deserted his camp during the Great Depression. Harper quickly discovers that Samuel had no intention of disappearing-and that someone went to extraordinary lengths to make sure his story stayed buried. As Sheriff Luke searches for Ethan, Harper follows a trail through old letters, missing records, family secrets, and a payroll scheme nearly ninety years old. With the river rising and autumn storms closing in, the past may hold the only clue to finding Ethan before it's too late.Meanwhile, Harper's young friend Sadie Bennett is learning that good journalism means more than asking questions-it means knowing the difference between what everyone believes and what the evidence can actually prove.Because in Maple Hollow, history never stays buried forever.Death on the Covered Bridge is a warm, character-driven cozy mystery filled with Vermont autumn charm, historical intrigue, small-town secrets, slow-burn family legacy, and another twisty case for Harper and Luke.Welcome back to Maple Hollow-where the coffee is hot, the leaves are turning, and even the oldest bridges still have stories left to tell.
