Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Before they were legends, they were ghosts in the sands.

For over a millennium, the Medjay walked between two worlds. Originating as pastoral nomads in the desolate eastern wastes of Nubia, these master bowmen first encountered Egypt as indispensable desert guides and feared mercenaries. Known as the "Archers of the Eye," their unmatched marksmanship earned them glory along the Nile's frontier.

Yet history demanded an astonishing reinvention.

As dynasties rose and fractured, the Medjay transformed from a nomadic tribe into an elite paramilitary force. Bearing the sacred amulet of the Wedjat Eye, they became the Pharaoh's relentless gaze-policing turbulent cities, patrolling desolate gold routes, and standing vigil over the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings. Eventually, their tribal identity dissolved, leaving behind a prestigious mantle that redefined ancient law enforcement.

In this sweeping and meticulously researched chronicle, Raymond Bradley brings archaeological discoveries, frontier ostraca, and forgotten desert graves to life. Discover the dramatic 1,300-year evolution of the ancient world's most formidable protectors, whose legacy helped shape an empire.
