Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Elara does everything right. A physiotherapist who fixes people for a living. A husband who makes sense on paper - pressed shirts, a plan for every Sunday. She was raised to love one man, one life, one bed. She believed it for years.

Then, quietly, Marcus became the man who decided things. Where they lived. What she drove. Whether the practice she wanted to open was realistic. He never raised his voice. He did it kindly, with a smile - so gently that by the time she noticed, she'd already agreed to everything.

Then there was Silas. The night cleaner. A man who noticed things about her that her own husband had stopped seeing years ago. For nineteen months, he was the place she went to leave herself for a few hours - a parking lot behind a grocery store, a truck cab fogged with breath, a door she could walk through and become someone else. She broke it off more times than she could count. She always went back.

"I won't spend another year of my life as somebody's parking lot," he tells her, and means it - right before a decision arrives that belongs to no one but her, and changes what the affair is going to cost before it's even over.

When it ends, it doesn't end clean. It ends in a kitchen, with a husband who knows more than she ever meant to tell him, and a marriage neither of them recognizes anymore. He doesn't forgive her. He stays anyway - and tells her, plainly, that those aren't the same thing.

The Parking Lot is a quiet, unflinching novel about the places we go to feel like someone else, and the marriages we stay in anyway - not because we've been forgiven, but because leaving was never really the question we thought it was.
