Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Christian and Spiritual Letters - Volume III continues the first complete English translation of Madame Guyon's remarkable collection from the original French edition of 1717.Following the 240 letters presented in Volume I and the 200 letters in Volume II, this third volume presents 156 additional letters, bringing the collection to 596 letters now available in English across the first three volumes of this ongoing translation project. In these letters, Madame Guyon enters ever more deeply into the spiritual realities that characterize her teaching: pure and naked faith, abandonment to God, the stripping away of self-possession, spiritual childhood, the Cross, divine union, the action of grace, and the mysterious ways by which God forms and guides souls.A substantial portion of this volume also explores the spiritual communication and guidance of souls, the responsibilities and sufferings of those called to assist others in the interior life, and the radical dispossession required of those whom God uses as instruments of his grace. As throughout the collection, these are not abstract theological treatises. They are letters addressed to real persons in different circumstances and stages of the spiritual life. Their personal character allows the reader to encounter Guyon not merely as a spiritual writer, but as a counselor responding directly to questions, struggles, trials, and experiences of those seeking a deeper life in God.This edition preserves the structure, numbering, and distinctive spiritual vocabulary of the 1717 French original as closely as possible while presenting the text in clear and readable English.Volume III contains 156 letters and brings the total published in this English translation to 596 letters across Volumes I-III, continuing the publication of Madame Guyon's complete Christian and Spiritual Letters for English-speaking readers.
