Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A desert monastery on the edge of revolution. A love that lets go so it can grow larger. A dream two thousand years old, waiting to be understood.Giovanni d'Assisi has spent decades reporting other people's wars, other people's griefs. Now, settled at last with Isabelle after the long loss of his wife Margherita, he believes his restless years are behind him. Then Isabelle tells him she is staying in India - not for a season, but for good, to give herself entirely to the children of Mumbai's slums. The peace Giovanni thought would carry him to the end of his life instead sets him moving again.Fleeing to the Syrian monastery of Deir Mar Josef as the Arab Spring tips the country toward civil war, Giovanni finds in his old friend Father Pierre a patient, searching companion - and in sleep, something stranger still. Night after night his consciousness slips free of his body and travels: onto the astral plane to meet his late wife Margherita, into the wind and clouds of the Afghan Pamir where Chiara offers an unlooked-for tenderness, and finally into a Samaritan courtyard two thousand years in the past, where a woman named Elischeba tells him of a great journey east with a man called Yeshua - and of a companion, Dhanesh, whose fate turns out to be bound to his own.Guided by Elizabeth, the spirit who has watched over him since before he can remember, Giovanni is asked again and again to choose: between the comfort of stillness and the harder work of scattering seeds, between grief and the understanding that turns grief into meaning, between the people he loves and the wider humanity that love, fully realised, must eventually embrace.Moving between the deserts of Syria, the slums of Mumbai, the mountains of Afghanistan and the quiet of Venice, The Seventh Dream of Giovanni asks what a life is for - and what we owe the people who have shaped it, across every life we have lived. This is a novel for anyone who has ever loved more than they thought their heart could hold, and wondered what it might mean to let that love take a different shape.
