Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Six shots in the steam. Five wounds. Three pistols. And a town that decided what happened before the smoke cleared.

Crab Orchard Springs, Kentucky, July 1881. The resort is full, the train is late, and the platform is packed with 300 people watching the light.

On the boards, Black barber James Mullins is still burning from a public humiliation. A pocket pistol goes off by accident in the crush. In the steam and panic, two other armed men fire blind, each certain he is stopping a massacre.

When the air clears, 24 year old George Adams is dying. What the body knows is clear. What the town says happened is something else.

Based on the documented killing of George Adams, the coroner's inquest, and the trial that followed, That Odd Fellows Circus Murder is a Rashomon style historical mystery about fear, memory, and the stories a Jim Crow town needs to tell itself to sleep.

What readers will not forget: - A murder you will argue about: accident, self defense, or something the law had no name for- The trampled masks, the stolen wages, the gray suit in the store window that becomes a symbol for everything lost- A courtroom where telling the truth costs eight more years than lying>Perfect for fans of Just Mercy, The Underground Railroad, Devil in the White City, and true crime historical fiction rooted in real American records.

What follows is not what happened. It is what several people were afterward able to say.
