Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Ivy Bennett notices what everyone else misses: the empty hook, the skipped name, the silence where something should be.Then her coat appears on a thirteenth hook that did not exist the day before.Behind it is a doorway into Oddmere Academy - an impossible school for children with difficult gifts. Here, staircases breathe, soup has opinions, questions are encouraged, and being unusual is supposed to be the whole point. At first, Oddmere feels like the first place Ivy and her best friend Mina have ever truly belonged. But something inside the school is quietly changing the children.Questions disappear.Laughter goes missing. The difficult, wonderful parts that make each child unmistakably themselves are being smoothed away, one grain at a time. The adults call it settling. The children will learn to call it being sanded. And Ivy is beginning to understand that the Sand does not steal by force. It convinces you that becoming easier is the same thing as becoming better. To protect Mina - and every child Oddmere has taught to forget a piece of themselves - Ivy will have to do what she has always done best: Notice what everyone else has agreed not to see.Oddmere Academy: The Sand is a whimsical, mysterious and heartfelt middle-grade fantasy about friendship, belonging, identity, difference, and the courage to remain fully yourself.
