Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

From the green hills of Ireland to the shores of Maryland, one family helped leave a name and a legacy that would endure for generations.Dundalk Maryland and the McShane Family from Ireland explores the history of the McShane family and their connection to the community that became known as Dundalk, Maryland. In 1894, Irish immigrant and Baltimore industrialist William McShane established an iron foundry and railroad stop in the area and gave it the name Dundalk, after Dundalk in Ireland. Years later, in 1917, Dundalk developed as a planned community, but the Irish name remained.Authors George D. Goodrich IV and Christine Goodrich take readers into the story behind that name and the people, industry, railroads, immigration, and community growth that helped shape Dundalk. The book follows the McShane family's Irish roots, their work in Baltimore's industrial world, and the lasting connection between Ireland and Maryland.More than the history of one family, this is a story about immigration, hard work, industry, family, heritage, and community-and how a name carried across the Atlantic became part of Maryland history.Discover the Irish roots behind Dundalk, Maryland, and the McShane family whose legacy helped give the community its name.
