Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Book DescriptionWhen did the dog become a dog?Who first began to domesticate wolves? When we trace the history of dogs, we are tempted to search for a beginning. But the real mystery may not be the first encounter. Why did they meet again?Human and Canis did not sense the same world.Canis read the world through the nose; Human relied heavily on the eye. They approached, moved apart, came into conflict, and sometimes moved together. Many Encounters must have ended there. And yet, some did not.A Trace from one Encounter changed what happened in the next. They moved apart and returned, fell out of sync and adjusted again, and found themselves together once more. Eventually, one generation's "Again" became the next generation's Locus-something that was already there from the beginning. This book does not offer a single origin story of dog domestication.Instead of following the familiar linear story that "Human turned Wolf into Dog," it retraces the long trajectory between Human and Canis through five conceptual footholds: Encounter / Trace / Again / Together / EditingTo be together is not to become the same.A companion is not someone who never leaves.A companion is one with whom you can be together again, while remaining free to leave. They met by chance. They moved apart and met again. That "Again" did not end. Through repeated Encounters, they changed and were changed by one another. How did Canis lupus become Canis lupus EDITUS?How Chance Became Again.A phenomenology of cross-species companionship that retraces the Traces between dogs and Humans-and rethinks domestication, living together, and companionship without choosing a starting station.
