Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

In June 1943, the Gestapo captured the man who had unified France's fractured resistance movements under a single command reporting to Charles de Gaulle. Klaus Barbie interrogated him personally. Jean Moulin never talked, and he died from his injuries before ever reaching a German prison. This book tells his full story: a career prefect who refused to sign a Nazi-dictated document and paid for it, the secret survey work that convinced London he was the right man, his parachute return to unify three rival resistance movements into the Conseil National de la Resistance, the catastrophic Caluire meeting that led to his arrest, and the decades-long controversy over who betrayed it, a question this book treats as the genuinely disputed historical debate it remains today.Drawing on Moulin's own wartime secretary and the standard modern biographies, this book tells the story honestly, crediting both the achievement and the uncertainty that still surrounds its final chapter.
