A sensible feeding routine combines appropriate staple foods with reasonable dietary variety.

Understanding behavior allows owners to communicate with their fish through observation. Flaring, exploring, resting, bubble-nest building, and surface visits can all be normal behaviors. On the other hand, persistent hiding, unusual swimming, loss of appetite, or sudden inactivity may indicate stress or illness.

Disease prevention begins with excellent husbandry. Clean water, stable temperature, appropriate nutrition, safe aquarium design, and careful observation can reduce many common problems. When illness does occur, early recognition is important. Symptoms such as damaged fins, white spots, abnormal swelling, fungal-like growths, or serious changes in swimming should be investigated rather than ignored.
