Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Watch someone wake up.The eyes open. The hand finds the phone before a single sentence has formed. Somewhere in that minute a posture toward the day gets selected, and every hour afterward arranges itself behind the selection.Ask that person at dinner why they did what they did, and they will tell you. Fluently. With reasons. The reasons will be invented. Not dishonestly. The part of you that explains is sincere, and fast, and has no access to the part that acted. It arrives after the event and builds a plausible account from whatever is lying around. You have been reading those reconstructions your whole life and calling them decisions. The Unseen Life Rules is about what was actually happening.Beneath the deliberating mind sits an understructure with four strata: inherited settings that narrow your options before you know there were options; a picture of what you are that quietly decides the level your conduct returns to; the resistance that determines whether anything you intend survives an ordinary week; and what you transmit without speaking, which decides how a room categorizes you in the first seconds.Sixteen laws. Four movements. One to each stratum.Among them: - Behaviour Seeks Its Own Level - you do not rise to your ambition, you settle toward your self-picture- The System Corrects Toward Familiar - why unusual success is so often followed by a run of unexplained problems, and how to recognize the correction before it dismantles what you built- Resistance Is Not Character - the same person executes one hard task and defers another; what varies is friction, not virtue- Make It Hard to Undo - friction you can reverse in ten seconds will be reversed at the exact moment it mattered- Need Is Priced - perceived need lowers your standing, and concealment is the most legible state there is- The Unwatched Hour Is the Sample - conduct where nothing is at stake is the only uncontaminated measurement of what you areThese are laws in the sense that weather has laws. They operate whether or not you have read them, and knowing them does not suspend them. What knowing changes is the range of what can be governed - which is smaller than freedom and considerably larger than nothing. No protocol. No promise that you are one decision away from a different life. A description of the machinery, written for someone who has already tried the obvious approaches and found them insufficient.Begin with whichever stratum is costing you most.
