Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A king has lit a fire to burn every snake in the world. He cannot sleep. So an old storyteller sits down beside him.Night after night, the old man tells him stories. Two sisters make a bet about the colour of a white horse's tail, and one of them cheats. A bird hatches so bright that the gods think fire itself has gone mad. A thief gulps down the drink that makes you live forever, gets caught with it halfway down his throat, and has been chasing the Sun and the Moon across the sky ever since. A king hides from a curse in a room at the top of a single pillar. And a boy with no shoes walks up to the edge of the fire and asks for the one thing nobody expects.Every story leads into the next, until the king finds out who is coming to stop him, and has to decide what kind of king he is.The Boy Who Stopped the Fire tells nineteen stories from the opening book of the Mahabharata, for children aged 6 to 10 and the grown-up reading to them.- Nineteen stories, each five or six minutes long, with the reading time printed under every title- Every story ends with a question that leads straight into the next one- Funny where it can be and honest where it can't, with no lecture tacked on at the end- The source is named after every story, so a curious child can one day find the original

Book One of Before the Lamp Goes Out, the Mahabharata told at bedtime, one night at a time.
