Annamaria Phelps and Daniel Lauer are reconstructed from an eastbound departure toward Virginia Beach to a Chevrolet Nova later found westbound in New Kent County and the remains recovered miles away.The later identification of Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. changed the investigation substantially. Virginia authorities identified him as responsible for the murders of Knobling and Edwards, and the FBI later identified him as the murderer of Thomas and Dowski. Separate forensic investigations also connected him to Teresa Howell and Laurie Ann Powell. But this book does not use those findings to force one answer onto every unresolved case. Call and Hailey remain missing, while the Phelps-Lauer homicide investigation remains without a publicly identified offender.At the center of the reconstruction is a practical question: what had to happen between one documented state and the next?
