Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The title follows a convention well attested among Chassidic seforim - that of naming a work for its author, as in the Kedushas Levi of Reb Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev - while also invoking a familiar rabbinic image, that of Torah as a maayan, a wellspring that does not run dry.On that model, Maayan Levi is a systematic commentary on the parashat ha-shavua, following the complete annual reading cycle from Parashat Bereishit through Parashat V'Zot HaBerachah, together with companion studies for the moadim of the Jewish year: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Pesach, Sukkos, Purim, Shavuos, Tisha B'Av, Tu B'Shvat, and Lag B'Omer. Each chapter opens from the pshat established by the classical parshanim - Rashi, Ramban, and Ibn Ezra foremost among them - before proceeding to the derush and machshavah of the Chassidic tradition: the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov and the Maggid of Mezeritch, as transmitted through the courts of Lizhensk, Berditchev, Karlin, Kotzk, Ger, Sanz, and Rizhin, among others. Talmudic and midrashic sources are engaged throughout, and the maaseh - the Chassidic tale - is employed not as ornament but, in keeping with its original function, as a mode of hashkafic instruction.More broadly, the work is one of yichus. Kamil Levi Pyka Penner situates his commentary within his own family's mesorah, tracing descent to, among others, the Maharal of Prague, Rav Saadya Gaon, and Rav Moshe Isserles, the Remu - presenting the commentary as an inheritance as much as a body of scholarship.Suited to the beis medrash, to the academic study of Chassidus, and to the Shabbos table alike, Maayan Levi offers a full year's course through the weekly Torah cycle: grounded in the classical commentators and read anew, generation after generation, through the Chassidic tradition that continues to draw upon them.
