Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

He was already a made man when Frank Sinatra ruled the Copacabana. He was still running rackets when his own great-grandchildren were being born.John "Sonny" Franzese's career in the American Mafia began in 1938, when he was arrested for assault at twenty-one, and it did not end until 2011, when he was sentenced to eight years in federal prison at the age of ninety-four - still an active underboss, still collecting extortion payments from Manhattan strip clubs, seventy-three years after his first arrest. In between, he survived a wartime Army discharge citing "pronounced homicidal tendencies," helped bankroll two of the most commercially significant films of the early 1970s, and beat a fifty-year federal sentence down to a decade, only to spend the next several decades cycling in and out of custody rather than ever fully walking away. What finally ended it wasn't a rival, a prosecutor, or old age. It was his own son.For years, John Franzese Jr. drove his father to meetings carrying a hidden FBI recorder - capturing hundreds of hours of a man calmly discussing extortion, underworld loyalty, and how to make a body disappear. In 2010, that son testified against his father in open court, the first son of a New York mobster ever to do so.Franzese was released in 2017 as the oldest federal inmate in America, at one hundred. He died in 2020, at one hundred and three - the last living witness to nearly a century of organized crime, undone at last by the one loyalty he never managed to control.
