I want to talk to you like you are sitting across from me in my office in Lakeland, Florida, because that is exactly how this book was written. Not from a tower of academic distance. I have been in that middle. I live in that middle. And I wrote this book from that middle, because that is where you are, and that is where the truth lives.Let me tell you what this book is not. It is not another well-meaning volume written by someone who has sat in a cushy office and theorized about what adoptive families must be going through. It is not a book that tells you to just love them more, or that patience is the answer, or that if you simply try this one technique everything will change by Tuesday. Those books already exist. You have probably read several of them. You probably threw at least one across the room. I understand. I would have done the same.
