Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Big Jim Figures, Images, Presence is an in-depth study dedicated to the visual language of the Big Jim boxes produced by Mattel between 1972 and 1986. The book approaches these images as true pictorial compositions, where posture, palette, and framing create a presence that goes far beyond illustration.

Drawing on one of the last fully preserved collections in original condition, the book reveals the coherence and power of a unique graphic system, offering a patrimonial preservation of the original box visuals.

The work highlights the apogee of the wide blue boxes, the moment when Big Jim's visual grammar reached its highest level of mastery. It shows how the succession of images produces a scansion - a rhythm of gestures, diagonals, and colors that transforms the corpus into a continuous frieze. From the evolution of the early narrow boxes to the P.A.C.K. series, from the Spy line to the rupture of Global Command, the volume retraces the trajectory of a visual grammar that has become iconic.

Fully illustrated from original pieces, the book offers a new reading of a popular corpus and reveals one of the strongest graphic signatures of its era.
